Nockbusters Tournaments Success

The 2 Nockbusters Tournaments were a great success.  The 1st Annual Nockbusters FITA had 36 participants and the 2005 Nockbusters Invitational drew 31 participants.  We didn't really earn any money from the tournaments because we spent it all on trophies – trophies which a lot of Nockbusters took home!

Remember the next 2 JOADS have a later start time due to other activities in the Rec Center.  On 2-12 JOAD starts at 4:30pm and on 2-26 JOAD starts at 7:00pm.  Shooting arrows at night, Yeah...

Fayette County Field Update

Our new field Fayette County promised is coming along and we expect it to be ready for archery action on April 1st when we will move outdoors in preparation for the outdoor season.  The field is now level and has grass growing on it.  It still needs some cosmetic work and the parking lots are next to go in.   The County has also agreed to maintain the field. They will mow and stripe it every Friday before Saturday's JOAD and supply portable toilets until the new facilities are built.

There are still some on-site storage issues to be worked out.  Ideally, we'd like to have a trailer or storage building on the premises.  We may need to hold a fund-raiser or 2 to purchase a modular storage building for the site.   Our new location is adjacent to a large sports complex and puts us in plain view of the public.

Fayette County is also purchasing our outdoor target faces.  The county is committed to supporting our club and wants to see it grow during the outdoor season.  They will be promoting the club on their website and in the County Rec magazine.  I'm excited about the promise and possibilities this summer holds for the Nockbusters.

Indoor Practice Facility Needed

As many of you know, the Rec Center is booked every night during the week.  For the tournament archers, this is a major problem because we don't have a place to practice at 18m during the week.  We don't need much, just a building at least 20 yards deep with heat and lighting.  We'll always have a certified instructor present while shooting and we carry our own liability insurance.  If you know of a potential practice facility PLEASE notify me

Yearly Club Dues

Nockbuster Club dues are due in January.  Dues afford the club to purchase new equipment, keep our targets maintained, buy target faces etc.  You MUST be a member of the club to shoot a state or national JOAD tournament.  Dues are as follows:

            Individual $50

            Family $75

If you choose not to join the club, then a lane fee of $5.00 per session will be charged for out-of-county archers and $3.00 for Fayette County residents.  When you pay your dues each archer will receive a membership card.

Volunteer To Help

We need some help.  Well I should say, I NEED SOME HELP!  Need volunteers to:

            Blow the whistle at JOAD

            Man the registration desk

            Update the logbook

            Print the JOAD certificates

            Test the JOAD software

No experience necessary.  Please get involved.   Linda is coordinating volunteers so please email her at archerymom@mindspring.com.

GAA Update

Our own Sharon Langston is officially the GAA Secretary.   Our club board representatives are Linda O'Connor and Robert Lucas.  John Stuart, another Nockbuster is president of the GAA this year.  The board is in the process of re-writing the bylaws and constitution to better reflect the GAA mission statement.  After this indoor season, it is the intent of the GAA to support the clubs in their endeavors including but not limited to hosting state tournaments.  If you don't already get the GAA Email newsletter, send email to archerymom@mindspring.com with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.
